500 Likers and still growing on our Facebook page!

WOW! Wow. wow. I have to say I am pretty flabbergasted.... when I embarked on Big Cake, little cake I had visions that one day I would be creating cakes for "real" people (i.e. not friends, family and acquaintances) but little did I realise how soon that would be! In six short months we have gone from one cake a week to an average of 4-6 orders a week, plus supplying The Petite Princess Parlour (http://petiteprincessparlour.com.au/) with her cupcakes for her weekly parties. Plus I have had the privilege of creating the cakes for two weddings and have more booked!

Like I said - wow.

So, to celebrate I have a few offers and giveaways which I will launch individually over the next few days!

So here is the first... Win yourself a Jumbo Cupcake Mold! Firstly make sure you like our Facebook page (http://www.facebook.com/bigcakelittlecake) and follow our blog, then simply comment on this post in our blog and tell us what your dream jumbo cupcake would be! Winner will be drawn by Random.org on Wednesday 20th October!

Refer your friends and good luck!!

Dora the Explorer

Dora is fast becoming one of my most popular cakes - and she can be modified to suit what your party needs!

30th Birthday Cake

A local mum's group ask me to do a cake for them everytime one of their mums has a birthday, and they celebrate with a lunch at a local establishment. I love doing their cakes bco it isall left up to me and I can try new things. This time it was a 6" caramel mud, covered in a med dark choc ganache, with white choc and fondant details. So simple, so yummy!

Mini cupcakes

One thing I endeavour to do is provide a cake solution to suit all budgets - and mini cupcakes have become a popular choice to provide volume of cake,  but great affordability. They also seem to have less wastage and are easier to transport, serve and eat at little people's parties.  Recently I created the below creation for a little girl's 6th birthday party.   They were a mixture of vanilla and strawberry butter cake cupcakes, iced in either strawberry or vanilla buttercream and topped with different fondant decorations and or sprinkles.

Music to my ears

I have several repeat customers already in 6 short months of business, but one of my cilents is up to her 4th cake order already and I love creating for her. She gives me a direction and then leaves the rest up to me - and the results we both love!

Her latest cake was for her M-I-L's 80th birthday and my brief was a grand piano cake! When I rec'd the email asking me if I could do it I sat for a bit and thought: "Well, the challenge isn't big enough if it isn't scary!!" and booked her in! The final design was based on one by Shelby Lynn Cakes and the birthday girl, and everyone else, loved it!

Choc Mud cake finished in buttercream with fondant details.

The exploding cake!

I was pretty excited when I heard that my local trainers "Breaking Point Fitness" had won Qld Personal Training Business of the Year (again) 2010 because it meant (if I was allowed to) that I could create something spectacular for the celebration.  I have a wedding coming up in a few weeks and I really wanted to make sure my technique was perfect to create their 3-tier cake so what better opportunity would present itself - a 3-tier it would be!

The Breaking Point colours are orange and blue so this was the start of my inspiration and I had a funky roll of ribbon that tied into that theme perfectly - breaking up the orange and blue with a touch of green.  The three tiers were white chocolate mud, coconut and dark chocolate mud, all ganached and then covered in fondant.  The pièce de résistance was the exploding spots and stars from the top tier....

Baptism, Chistening and Naming Day cakes

Baptisms, christenings and naming days are all very special days for parents of new babies and their families. Like most special occasions it is celebrated with  a cake.

Here are a few of my recent Baptism and Christening cakes...

Black cupcakes - 21st Birthday party

I was recently contacted by a client who sent me a black and white picture of a cupcakes and asked me I could do it. I automatically googled for the original image and sent it back asking her if she wanted it in colour - at which point she explained they wanted black cupcakes with icing varying from black to light grey. Now initially I ho-hummed about the best way to do this and after a trial dozen found the technique that best match the picture and the client approved of.

The end result was black coloured vanilla cupcakes with buttercream varying from charcoal - light grey.

Jumbo cupcake!

One of my regular customers is Katrina at The Petite Princess Parlour in North Lakes. We supply the cupcakes for their parties and she is one of my biggest supporters. Katrina is also a professional makeup artist and did my make up for a photo shoot for the local paper. To say thanks for her ongoing support I thought I'd whip up a wee cupcake for her.... and being coeliac it is gluten free chocolate with dark choc ganache and buttercream.
